Hi! I’m Gabrielle and I’m the creator of Bungalow Bytes, along with my husband, David. We are both legal and nonprofit professionals with very “retro” interests who love to share our DIY, creative, and gardening/culinary adventures on this blog.
We’re historic house geeks who love to share our product sources, advice, and interesting information.
We are the proud owners of a 1924 Arts & Crafts style bungalow in Decatur, GA. It’s difficult to find appropriate products for our older home, so we love to share our sources for authentic or reproduction products. I’m a historic preservation/architecture geek, so you’ll also see other posts of interest to homeowners of older homes, whether it’s a Victorian mansion or a modest midcentury modern/ ranch house. We’re not always handy, but you’ll see our DIY renovation/repair attempts and learn about the discoveries we’ve made (or problems we’ve encountered) in our own projects. You’ll find all these topics listed under Bungalow.
Eat, drink, and be Merry!
As intrepid cooks, we’re always trying something tasty, whether it’s a vintage cocktail from The Savoy Cocktail Book, a new recipe from thekitchn.com or Bon Appetit, or sipping a budget Priorat wine. You’ll find these posts under Bytes. (In the wonderful tradition of of the late bungalow restoration expert Jane Powell, I also cannot resist a pun. It’s a virtual, digital experience, so instead of “biting” into something, you’re “byting” into it….) Go ahead. Groan. It’s OK. 🙂
We keep chickens and a garden too!
I maintain a small vegetable/herb garden and we both maintain a small flock of backyard chickens. The eggs are awesome but those hens are crazy. You might even see a post or two about our co-dependent, vacuum-loving cat Cinco, too. It is the internet after all, and we all know it’s for cat videos! Let the comedy begin! Check out Blooms and Beasties.
We love to travel!
Not surprisingly, our interests overlap into our travel choices too, with previous trip to Paris, Venice, Rome, Florence, parts of Tuscany and Umbria, as well as New York, San Francisco, Charleston, and other cities. Explore Bon Voyage.
We hope that you sit down with us and enjoy savoring the exciting flavor that life offers, one “byte” at time.
